According to Peter Sutton, the anthropologist who has worked closely with the Wik people, this carving is possibly one by Craig Koomeeta. The relevant site to this carving is on the lower Knox River which is for all dogs in the world, even sausage dogs. The site is under water, in ‘a very beautiful mangrove environment'...'with two story elements, one for adult dogs, one for puppies. Koomeeta's patrilineal country, Ithenang,is right next door'.
Sotheby's Australia wishes to thank Dr Peter Sutton for assistance in cataloguing this lot.
