From the mid-1950s Stanislaus Puruntatameri was an active sculptor on Bathurst Island who participated in several of the early exhibitions of Tiwi art both in Australia and abroad. He is represented in a number of major collections including those of the Museum of Victoria, the Janet Holmes à Court Collection, the Kelton Foundation and the National Gallery of Australia. The latter holds three animal sculptures including two from the mid-1950s
