Gifted to Ambassador Peterson (Pete) Bryant Jarman and his wife on 15th September 1951 by Fred and Phyllis Derrick, Brisbane, Australia 
Inherited by the vendor's mother; thence by descent

Peterson (Pete) Bryant Jarman was the US Ambassador to Australia during the Truman administration between 1949 and 1953.
 
This painting is sold with a copy of Rex Battarbee, Modern Australian Aboriginal Art, Sydney and London: Angus and Robertson, 1951 inscribed with a dedication by Fred and Phyllis Derrick to Ambassador and Mrs Jarman and containing an early newspaper article about Albert Namatjira's wife and black and white photographs of Alice Springs and the surrounding area.
