A VERY RARE COLOURED DIAMOND RING

Diamond connoisseurs have long considered red diamonds to be amongst the most precious and rarest of all diamonds. Despite the notable discovery of the Argyle pink diamond deposits in Western Australia in 1987, less than a handful of red diamonds have been discovered and very few people have ever had the opportunity to see one up close. In November 2004 Sotheby's Hong Kong offered a 0.91ct modified square cut fancy purplish red diamond. It hammered with buyer's premium HK$ 4,318,400 or approximately A$1,079,000. The scarcity of red diamonds renders the appearance of this 0.82ct carat oval stone as an extraordinary event and marks a high point of Sotheby's Australia association with coloured diamonds.

Furthermore, this is the first red diamond to ever appear for sale at an Australian auction and represents a rare auction event. Its rarity and richly saturated colour makes it the ideal gem for the ultimate gem connoisseur.
