the central hinged top raising on a ratchet mechanism to create a reading slope, flanked by lids opening to reveal shaped wells, with a frieze drawer, the upper section lifting off to form a separate tray and revealing the Japanese lacquer panel surmounting the lower section of the table which also has a single frieze drawer, supported on slender cabriole legs terminating in ormolu sabots
